Many agency leaders make their first hiring decisions before they have thought through what they are actually taking on. Employee, worker or freelancer changes far more than a job title, it changes your obligations, your risk and your paperwork.
This session is run by Lizzy Davies and Kate Melton, both employment associates at Harbottle & Lewis. Lizzy and Kate advise agencies on the questions that come up constantly as teams grow, from what to put in a first contract to how to handle a difficult exit. This is a practical, interactive session built around the concerns members raise most often.

● The real differences between an employee, a worker and a freelancer or consultant, and the benefits and drawbacks of hiring in each of these ways
● The key paperwork to have in place when you make your first hires
● What is changing under the Employment Rights Act 2025, including to unfair dismissal claims and the new duty on employers to prevent sexual harassment of staff
